Fascinated by the beauty of Switzerland

For a person who comes from a tropical country, the strong desire to experience snow is like a little boy who wants to go to Disneyland. My trip to Switzerland turned out to be even more exciting than I had imagined as I was able to experience snow even in the Summer. Not only the snow, but the combination of the mountains, houses, and lakes in the breathtaking nature of Switzerland was a daily source of amazement for me.

In Summer 2018 I completed a four-week summer course in WrocΕ‚aw, Poland, then took a train to MΓΌnchen, Germany. The yellowing crops grown in fields along the way viewed from the train window were a delight to the eyes. I was so impressed that I said aloud, “Europe is really beautiful”. A woman sharing my table, sitting in front of me, on the train from Dresden to Leipzig replied that “if you go to Munich, the Bavarian nature will attract you even more”.
She was right: the Bavarian landscape which resembles Switzerland introduced me to the beauty of the Alps mountains.

After 3 nights in MΓΌnchen, I flew to ZΓΌrich, Switzerland. The gorgeous view of the lakes was clear enough from the window plane for photos. Although views of the lakes on the ground are much better than from the air, I was glad to have the opportunity to capture the view from both sides.

I was the guest of a very nice family (Peter KΓΌnzi and his wife) in Winterthur, Switzerland. Native Swiss, they showed me around in their luxury car, going up and down hills to places such as SΓ€ntis. I can’t find the words to describe how I felt riding through the hilly roads. The unrivaled beauty of Switzerland was breathtaking, and I was so fascinated that I could hardly speak. Although I had seen videos and pictures of Switzerland, they did not capture the real charm of the country. None of any pictures I had seen had shown the magic of its view. Nature that was so different from nature in a tropical country blew me away.  I wanted to live there!

We took a giant gondola up to the top of the SΓ€ntis mountain. Although I’m a little afraid of heights, I was excited to reach the top. I had hoped to touch snow there, but I could only find some frozen ice. Unfortunately for me, this mountain that is 2,501.9 meters above sea level can’t preserve much snow in summer.

Even though SΓ€ntis didn’t satisfy my hunger for snow, the journey to SΓ€ntis was memorable. I had heard that the view of Jungfraujoch is unmatchable, but I found that the view of SΓ€ntis was fantastic. The next day, I prepared for my adventure to Titlis Mountain. I woke up early, prepared my lunch and my friend, Peter KΓΌnzi drove me down to the station where I took a train to Engelberg. A Window-seat on the second deck is always my favorite seating because it allows me not to miss a single view, except when the train passes through the tunnels.

After two and a half hours from Winterthur, transferring at Zurich and Luzern, I finally arrived at the Engelberg station. After purchasing my tickets, I walked the 500 meters to join a short queue to take the cable car to the top of Titlis. The peak of the mountain is at 3.029 meters and is covered by thick everlasting snow.

Since it was summer, the blue sky and white snow made the day even lovelier. At long last, I touched the snow,  then held on to it longer to enjoy the sensation. I rejoiced and jumped excitedly, and took as many photos as I could. I captured the joyful moment that I had been waiting for so long.

Travel to Switzerland is expensive but worth the expense. Words can’t describe it, because you must experience its beauty by yourself. A tropical country has its own allure but the magnetism of Switzerland’s nature forces me to return for another visit. ~ Ritueli Daeli
